We know it sounds a little strange, but are you looking for a better way to pill your toothless cat?

We would like to introduce you to a creative, stressless way that we call the 'Maya Method. Animal Community Talks founders, Daniela and Geoff, discovered this trick when looking for ways to medicate our cat Maya, who had learned to sniff out and reject a pill in any treats we could give her. As a fractious cat with heart problems, traditional pilling was not a viable option for her.

First, you'll need to add the following to your inventory: easy cheese, small empty capsules (sold at Walgreen's pharmacy), and a pill crusher.

The Maya Method

Depending on the size of the pill, you may need to grind it in the pill crusher.

Next, put the medication in the gelatin capsule. If the medication has been ground, you may want to use a small spoon.

Carefully put the two sides of the open capsule together to close it. If the capsule is longer than desired, cut a small bit off the end before putting it together. It is important that the capsule be closed completely and have no medication on the outside, as cats have a sensitive sense of taste and smell.

Put the capsule in easy cheese, then add another layer of protein, if desired. Deli turkey meat is used in this example.

Wrap the capsule entirely in the cheese and protein. Sprinkling nutritional yeast on the roll can make it even more appetizing.
